Lake Võrtsjärv
Lake Võrtsjärv is the largest inland lake in Estonia. Its territory is larger than all the other lakes taken together, not considering Lake Peipsi. In the lake there are few islands, most of them in the southern part of the lake. Tondisaar and Pähksaar are permanent islands. When the level of the water is low, Ainsaar becomes a peninsula. When the level of the water is high, Heinsaar is covered with water. The shores of the lake are mostly low – in the south they are swampy, in the north sandy. The eastern shores are relatively high. In spite of the large territory, the lake is shallow.
