The Manorial Park of Mäksa
The manor is situated on the right slope of the primeval valley of the Emajõgi. The first mention of the manor dates back to the year 1555 when it belonged to the family of von Meck. As all the manors on the river-banks of the Emajõgi, Mäksa also had the parks following the relief with its regular terraces and ponds which looked like flower gardens dating back to the 18th century. The park was surrounded by lime-tree avenues, the fragments of which are still there near the edges of the park and ruins of greenhouses. In the second quarter of the 19th century when the main building was completed, C. Von Liphart made the park considerably larger. To the park also belonged two forests of spruces where pheasants were grown. White and black pines and grey walnut trees bearing rich harvest are of dendrological interest.
