Kabina
The manor of Kabina (Cabbina) founded in the 1720s is located on the high slope of the primeval valley. In history Kabina has played an important role in the river transport of the Emajõgi. At the beginning of the 19th century sailing boats and big barges could not satisfy the lively trade between Tartu and Pskov, Tartu and Narva. The merchant E. W. Wegener and the owner of the Võisiku factory making mirrors K.F. Amelung were successful – the first steamship “Juliane Clementine” built on their initiative and money was launched at Kabina in 1842. The ship began to sail on the River Emajõgi and Lake Peipsi in the autumn of 1842. It made its first trip to Pskov on 15 May 1843. The ship was 19,6 m long, 4,9 m wide and its speed was 10 knots. The ship could take 15 people on board. Towing a boat, it could carry 114 tonnes of cargo.
Kabina has an important place in the Estonian national culture thanks to the fact that on 4 June 1870 the first all-Estonia singing festival for children was held in the Kabina manorial park with 20 000 children participating.
